Usedomer Brauhaus Heringsdorf

Traditional, hearty German Cuisine in an authentic Craft Brewery on the Island of Usedom.

Restaurant NameUsedomer Brauhaus
AddressFriedenstraße 1, 17424 Heringsdorf

Note:  This is an independent restaurant review based on my personal experience.

Usedomer Brauhaus, is a culinary delight located on the Baltic Sea Island Usedom in Northeast Germany, Northwest Poland.  The tourist spa island is divided between Germany and Poland.  It is here that we had the pleasure of dining in the Craft Brewery which serves an impressive menu of beers and German Cuisine.

The Restaurant: The casual atmosphere is inviting; booths, tables and chairs are placed around huge copper brew kettles and a large bar invites the single visitor.  Brewery tours complete with tastings are sometimes available, so be sure to ask!  Grilled chickens are roasting on the back wall and Flammkuchen, a traditional German flatbread, is being rolled out and prepared in the open work area.

The Service:  We loved the atmosphere and felt at home the moment we walked in.  After choosing our own table, our friendly server, Sebastian Flatt, was so much fun! Thank you Sebastian for being a part of making our evening so enjoyable.  In addition to patiently explaining the various beers and dishes, he also made some great recommendations.

The Food:  We ordered 1 liter each of Usedomer Naturtrüb (unfiltered Pilsener), Usedomer Pils and two 1/2 liter Achterwasser (Naturtrüb with Lemonade). Everyone was more than satisfied with their choices.

For an appetizer, we ordered the Käsebrett, a Cheese Board with obazda, emmentaler, limburger and camembert cheese as well as a basket of bread.  It the creamy, delicious cheese disappeared quickly.

I ordered the Rösche Schweinshaxe mit Bratkartoffeln und Sauerkraut – Roast pork knuckle with fried potatoes and sauerkraut.  The delicious aroma preceded the crispy, tender meat piled high on a plate with zesty but slightly sweet white sauerkraut, perfect pan fried golden potatoes, a small side salad and mustard.  I was only able to finish less than half of the delicious meal.

The SauerbratenPommerscher Art‘, Brauerknödel, Rotkohl was presented on a plate with braised pork topped with a savoury gravy, sweet red cooked cabbage and slices of dumplings prepared from bread and beer. A delightful dish full of tasty comfort food.

Putengeschnetzeltes mit Champignons, Pommes frites was considerably different than we expected, but non the less delectable.  Chicken strips were stewed in a thick savoury reddish mushroom gravy, served with a side of french fries.

One person in our party does not like sauerkraut, so he ordered the Rösche Schweinshaxe mit Bratkartoffeln und Kartoffel-Gurkensalat which was the same as my dish, but instead of fermented cabbage, a ceramic jar filled with potato and pickle salad was placed on the table. By the way, he could not finish his meal either.
