Mexican Restaurant – Serenity Resorts, Egypt

Mexican food in Egypt?  Ándele! Serenity Makadi Beach hotel is spicing things up.

Restaurant NameMexican, Mexican Cuisine
Address:  Serenity Makadi Beach, 36 Km, Safaga Road, Makadi Bay, Hurghada, Red Sea, Egypt

Note:  This is an independent restaurant review based on my experience.

As the name suggests, restaurant Mexican serves an Egyptian take on the trendy cuisine. This à la carte can be found in Rossini, a dining room located above the resort buffet room.

We were greeted warmly by Ahmed who led us to our table.  After seating us, he confirmed our order and then politely excused himself as a server enquired our water preference and what we like to drink.  We ordered wine, one still water and one sparkling water.

A bread basket with a side of avocado dip as well as a super spicy sauce arrived at our table. Both dips were very good, the bread basket had a nice selection.  Our wine had still not arrived, but it only took one glance around before Mr. Ibrahim was at our side and bringing us wine.

Appetizers
Fresh Tuna marinated with green olive, garlic and lemon –  Although it was served much thicker than we are accustomed to, this raw dish served on a bed of lettuce over toast was prepared perfect. Nice texture, not too mushy.

Beef fillet, red beans and avocado – very good. I apologize, my foto does not do it any justice.

Soup
Cauliflower Cream with Mushroom – mediocre

Red Bean Chowder with fresh Coriander– lacking flavor, it tasted a little better with a little of the spicy bread sauce added and some salt.

Entrée
Beef Fajitas, strips of beef with onion, bell pepper, guacamole, sour cream and chili potatoes – delicious! It arrived smoking hot on a cast iron pan with a flour tortilla.

Chicken with Mexican Sauce, served with Potato wedges and grilled vegetable – good.  The grilled vegetables are amazing.

Dessert
Chocolate Merengue – very good.  The merengue itself was not chocolate, rather it was topped with a chocolate bud and an almond.  Wonderfully elegant.

Chocolate Mousse, rich dark chocolate mousse with cinnamon flavor- very good.  Cinnamon in the name threw me off, but it was a wonderful combination with just a hint of delicate cinnamon nuance.

It would have been nice if coffee would have been offered, but it was not.  On a whole, it was a wonderful dinner with very tasty food.  I recommend either of the appetizers, red bean soup, beef fajitas and chocolate meringue.

Service – the always efficient and charming assistant restaurant manager of Serenity Makadi Beach, Ahmed Ibrahim, wowed with his ability to take care  where service was often lacking.
