Bary Inn Airport Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Within it’s price category, this hotel deserves a better star rating review than what you find online. The Bary Inn hotel Kuala Lumpur with airport shuttle, free parking, wifi and restaurant is simple but enough.

Our experience:
We wanted a room close to the airport due to a long day of travel, with shuttle, wifi and cheap, for one night. The Bary Inn, located a short 20 minutes away at No 1 Jalan 4, Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi Business Park, Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, 43900 Sepang, Selangor, Malaysia seemed like a perfect choice.

Shuttle service included? Yes, but… We phoned the hotel at 4:50 pm to let them know we had arrived and they said the shuttle would arrive at 5:30, level 1, exit 3. We found the area by 5 pm and sat to wait. At 5:25 we called to reconfirm and they told us to call the driver. So we took the phone number and called the driver who said he would come at 6:30 pm. We called the hotel again and they said there was nothing they could do. We were tired from travelling and upset that we had to wait – not off to a good start. More about the shuttle further down.

Rather than waiting we ordered a Grab which finally arrived at 6:10 pm – on a different level, but ok. Cost 65 ringgit / €13.50 / USD$15.50. The drive to the hotel took around 25 minutes.

Check In was painless. Reception was friendly, reserved, maybe a little confused. He was not apologetic for the shuttle problem, rather wanted to get us to reserve it for the next day, I assume to avoid any further complications.

The Room: Not the Ritz, but value for dollar it definitely is. Clean, walls not too scuffed and a firm double bed with clean bedding. End tables, a desk with no chair, small tv, ceiling fan and air conditioning complete the small room with a highway window view. Yes, you can hear the traffic whizzing by, but it is muffled and I read there are rooms without windows, so traffic is not so bad. Lots of hooks to hang clothes is a thoughtful addition. Unfortunately, although there are international plugins / receptacles there is only one and none are by the bed, but there is a light switch. 2 courtesy bottles of water are included as is WiFi.

The Bathroom, is a simple bathroom with sink, toilet, and shower. Surprisingly, 2 single use shampoo packets and 2 small soap bars were available!

Convenience:
– 20 minutes from the airport
– Free shuttle
– Restaurants & Convenience Stores within walking distance

The shuttle worked great in the morning. Look for a white van with green Bary Inn on the left door and green Bas Persaran on the side.

Hotel Cost: 93 ringgit / €19.50 / USD$22.20
+  a deposit of 50 ringgit which we got back

Would I stay here again? Yes, it is perfectly located with only 20 minutes to the airport, clean and the price is amazing. Next time, I would make it very clear when our arrival is so there would be no complications with the shuttle.

Eat: Restoran Al Zain
Address: G/F No 57, Jalan 4 Medan 120, Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, 43900 Sepang, Selangor
If you are looking for something to eat within walking distance, down the street is a fair priced local restaurant serving Roti, Noodles, Chicken and more. We ate there (sorry, no camera with me, no photos); Nasi Ayam, Magi soup, lemonade, ice tea and a large water for 17.80 ringgit / €3.90
The place was very busy with locals and travellers alike.

Grand Bimasena Hostel Bali

Quiet, affordable accommodation within Walking Distance to Legian Beach, Kuta Clubs and Restaurants.

Hotel Name:  Grand Bimasen Hostel
Address: Jalan Legian No. 190, Legian, Kuta, Badung, Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia

Note:  This is an independent hotel review based on my personal experience.

The Hotel:  We arrived late in the evening, but our wonderful hostess greeted us with a big warm smile and quickly checked us in.  We were on the second floor.  The room itself is simple and outdated, but a comfortable bed, a night table, a lamp and a tv provided the bare necessities.  The bathroom was a typical Asian wet room – toilet, sink and shower in one small area. A big bar of soap and towels were provided at no extra charge.

The Service: Fantastic! Friendly, helpful and outgoing.

The Breakfast: Included in the price, the breakfast was a definite highlight. I had a banana pancake while my husband enjoyed fried eggs. A plate of fresh fruit, butter, marmalade, fresh pressed juice, coffee and tea were presented on a table by the pool.

Convenience: Restaurants, clubs, shops and Legian Beach are all within walking distance. The side street where it is located helps with night life noise levels and while we were there, the guests seemed quiet and respectful.

Breakdown
Positive: Almost everything; the host, the breakfast, the location, the pool.
Negative: Outdated, run down rooms; Internet is often weak to non-existent so best idea is to buy a SIM card so you don’t have to rely on it. Both afternoons we came back to no electricity, which lasted a few hours due to hedge / tree trimming, I think.

The Cost: €13 / US$16 per night (3 nights, Rp 689,700 / €40 / US$50)

Do I recommend it? Yes! If you are a person who is looking for a quiet place to lay your head at night for a great price, this is what you are looking for.

Sleepy Gecko Guesthouse Bali

Finding paradise in Canggu, Bali. A delightful Guest House experience.

Guesthouse NameSleepy Gecko Guest House

Address:  Jl. Padang Linjong No.6, Canggu, Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351, Indonesia

Note:  This is an independent hotel / guesthouse review based on my personal experience.

Our host Putu, met us on arrival; as we would discover during our time with her, she has a gentle kind spirit and a beautiful aura.  Due to availability, she graciously, without request or mention, upgraded us to the charming Wood Room villa.

The Accommodation: The Wood Room features large glass windows facing the pool. A huge, romantic, queen sized poster bed is the focal point, while a wardrobe, side tables, tv/dvd player (more on that later), air conditioner, and fan provide appreciated conveniences.

The rustic stone, spa style bathroom had a shower area, a soaking tub, sink and of course, a toilet. A small ladder provided a perfect drying rack for swimsuits and towels.  A bar of soap, some liquid hand soap and towels were provided.

A Community kitchen equipped with a good variety of pots, pans, dishes, flatware and glasses along with a two burner stove was well appreciated by the guests.  Thoughtfully, drinking water is available to use as needed. Just off of the kitchen, was an eating area with tables and chairs.  We liked doing our computer work here in the breeze.  It was a great place for socializing too with other guests and our host.

The refreshing swimming pool was a god send on most of the hot, humid days and we really used it – a lot.  Surprisingly, only one other guest seemed to appreciate it as much as us, which we had no problem with because it seemed like our own little paradise.

The DVD Player in the room actually had a purpose. In the community area is a fairly generous movie library with old and new titles to borrow and watch.  We had a movie night one evening after dinner and it was very relaxing.  I assume if it rains, guests are very thankful for this thoughtful diversion. In addition to films, there is a small library of books to borrow as well.

Sleepy Gecko Guesthouse also has Motorbikes for rent at 50,000 IDR / €3 / US$3.50 per day.  We discovered very quickly that this affordable means of transportation is a necessity, so plan with it.

Things I did not like:
– Barking dogs, it didn’t matter whether you wanted to take a nap in the afternoon or were rudely awakened in the morning the dogs were often barking.
– Watered down hand soap. I guess at the fantastic price, we can let it slide and be thankful there was soap at all.

The Cost:  Deluxe Double (our original booking) – 4 nights, 2 persons: 1,180,000 / €70 / US$87.  That is a meager €17.50 / US$21.75 per day!

Do I recommend Sleepy Gecko Guesthouse?  Definitely, it is an extremely affordable, clean place, within walking distance to a few restaurants, laundry service and an atm, not to mention all of the amenities.  Thank you Putu!

Bali’s Ubud is about Relaxation & Culture, SenS Spa Hotel is an Oasis within & more affordable than you might think.

Hotel Name: SenS Hotel Ubud
Address: Jl. Sukma, Tebesaya, Ubud, Petulu, Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571

Note: Although invited by SenS Hotel, the following review reflects my personal experience based on my stay.

A very warm welcome awaited us as we entered the four star Boutique SenS Hotel Ubud. We were greeted with refreshing wet towels, followed by small mocktail refreshments and a delectable sweet.

The Lobby is not overpowering huge, rather cozy with comfortable seating in rich burgundy reds and gold. Indonesian Balinese music plays softly in the background.  Such a relaxing ambiance!

The Room – Superior King:  Warmly decorated in soft greens and beige, it is extremely inviting. A king size Continue reading “SenS Hotel Ubud”

Aerotel Singapore Transit Hotel

A transit hotel in Changi Airport with an outdoor swimming pool. Time to relax.

Hotel NameAerotel Singapore
Address:  Level 3, Departure Transit Lounge, Terminal 1 (above Gate D41), Singapore Changi Airport, 819642

Note:  This is an independent hotel review based on my personal experience via a collaboration with the above brand.

The Hotel:  First and most importantly, Aerotel Singapore is a transit hotel.  That means, when your flight arrives, you DO NOT go through customs, rather you go straight to the Transit Hotel. (Note: It does not say Aerotel) The escalator to get to the third level is to the right of gate D41.

You will not have access to your checked luggage, so make sure Continue reading “Aerotel Singapore Transit Hotel”
